Paul Boyd

Born and raised in Wagga Wagga, Australia, Paul studied all styles of dance from a very early age under the guidance of Beverley Waters. These early studies led Paul to study with the Bryan Lawrence School of Ballet in Canberra, The Australian Ballet School in Melbourne and with Marika Besobrasova in Monet Carlo.

After a performing career of 25years where Paul was Principal Dancers with three German Opera Houses, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Dusseldorf/Duisburg, Stadtische Buhnen Dortmund, Opera der Stadt Bonn and the Basel Ballet in Switzerland and Queensland Ballet, he retired from the stage in 2003.

His repertoire included all the major classics and works from William Forsythe, Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, Youri Vamos, Balanchine, Heinz Spoerli, Nils Christe, Hans van Mannen, Roland Petit, amongst others.

Paul made guest appearances internationally and performed at the Arena di Verona, Italy in 1993 in the role of Spartacus.

International guest teaching has also taken Paul to Japan, London, Germany, China and Hong Kong.

His works as a choreographer have been taken into numerous companies and dance institutions throughout the world including, The Australian Ballet (Bodytorque season), Queensland Ballet, Basel Ballet, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, John Neumeier’s Bunderjugendballett Hamburg, and the Royal Ballet Ballet School where his work “Uneven Ground” was toured to New York, Japan and had performances at London’s Covent Garden.

Paul is currently on the full time staff of Queensland Ballet, under the direction of Li Cunxin.

His continued support of the Company amongst his many commitments is greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the Company.
