Terry Simpson Studios offers a broad dance experience for students aged from three to those wishing to undertake training with a view to choose from the “tripartite” training:

Recreational - For the casual interest and to keep fit.

Classes are offered for students with either a casual interest in attending class once a week. Older students are able to participate in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Pointe and limbering classes.

Vocational - For the serious and committed students [Full time training, RAD Major and Grade examinations]

Full Time vocational training is available to selected students of the school or to outside students on successful audition. This course is offered to those possessing the physical attributes and temperament for professional training or to students with a sincere desire to teach or pursue a career in a dance allied field.

Educational  - with SACE 1 & 2 Dance subjects for academic study

The school offers the certified SACE course, Dance Performance and Theory. This is offered at both Stage One and Stage Two levels. Students have the option to specialise in either classical ballet or modern techniques. These courses involve study in composition and choreography, dance history, anatomy, repertory studies, music, dance theory and community based dance. Student achievement since the inception of Year 12 Dance in 1989 has been a source of pride and reward for enthusiastic and committed students and staff.

Terry Simpson

Terry Simpson has been a respected teacher of dance in Adelaide for more than twenty years. Miss Simpson trained in London at the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) and tours Australia and overseas countries as a Grades Examiner. This has given Miss Simpson an unusually high exposure to training methodologies, syllabi content and examining criteria which has resulted in her belief that standards of excellence are possible in a dance training which still encourages the individual, no matter the shape, size or talent.

Miss Simpson has taught in primary, secondary and tertiary dance courses in the public and private sector and feels that this experience, allied to the taxing and gruelling regime of the full-time private sector studio teacher, has won her recognition as a “dance educator” rather than simply a “ballet teacher”.

Philosophy

Children of this ballet school are encouraged to learn in a non-competitive, supportive atmosphere. They grow in confidence and develop poise and coordination. Individual creativity and mastery of skills are valued equally. Classes offer a balance of appropriate level technique and more informal improvisation, music and movement.
